Why are they coming? That should be the first question U.S. policymakers ask when deciding how to address the migration of Central Americans coming in increased numbers to the U.S.-Mexico border.

At a recent event held by the National Immigration Forum, Ali Noorani, the group’s executive director, asked the key staff members of the Christian organization Association for a More Just Society — who live and work in Honduras — a simple question: Why are people leaving?
